This PBA “Match. Exchange. Develop. Youth Work against violent radicalisation and extremism - partner building activity “has been designed in the context of the work done by the SALTO EuroMed, SALTO EECA, SALTO SEE, SALTO INCLUSION and DIVERSITY, the National Agencies of Erasmus+ Youth in Action of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the partnership between the Council of Europe and the European Commission in the field of youth.

ACTIVITY BACKGROUND
Motivated by the increasing radicalisation of young people and the use of violence, hate speech, hate crimes, xenophobia, propaganda, attacks on migrants, political and religious extremism and terrorist attacks, the cooperation project “Youth Work against violent radicalisation and extremism” aimed and aims at different activities to discuss the underlying causes and factors leading towards the adoption of a radical ideology and use of violent means. Young people are open to various types of radicalisation: right wing extremism, left-wing extremism, political-religious extremist violence and single-issue extremist violence. Radicalisation leading to violence is a process whereby people adopt an extremist belief system – including the intent to use, encourage or facilitate violence – in order to promote an ideology, a political project or a cause as a means of social transformation. This implies that there are various factors and opportunities for radicalisation, but also potential for youth work to intervene in order to build resilience of young people and empower them to face the challenges.

AIM
The aim of the event is to encourage and support projects focusing on the role of youth work in promoting community resilience in the framework of Erasmus+ Youth in Action and the European Solidarity Corps programme.

The Partnership Building Activity will be an open space for getting to know other professionals involved in the same/ similar field of work, for exploring together potential ideas for common projects, for building quality partnerships and co-creating projects and grant applications.

The PBA will also provide space for participants to share practices and resources about youth work and youth workers involved in preventing violent radicalisation and to create international working groups that will lead to future cooperation, support and new networks for future projects.

During the PBA, it will be possible to test some educational tools and to receive information about the development of the Competence Model Research for youth workers involved in preventing violent radicalisation.

The scope of PBA is Programme Countries as well as South Med, EECA and Russia and SEE regions: this is a great added value for discovering and confronting diverse models of interventions and to better understand the cultural dimension in the radicalisation process.

TARGET GROUP

  • The PBA is foreseen for active youth workers and NGO managers actively involved in youth work preventing different types of violent radicalisation and representing an NGO willing to upscale their experiences at EU and International level.
  • We are expecting active involvement in project design and supporting the creation of new international partnerships.

PROGRAMME
The PBA (Partnership Building Activity) will be organised in three steps:

  • Preparatory work in form of online activities on 10/09 at 17.00 and on 17/09 at 17.00 focusing on networking and creating common grounds;
  • PBA in Germany (if the Covid-19 situation allows it): arrival on 28/09 and departure on 2/10
  • Follow up after one month creating peer-to-peer support working groups.

The PBA will alternatively take place virtually if the situation does not allow for coming together in Germany, yet. More information will be communicated after the selection procedure once perspectives on that are clearer.
